Morning mood by Edvard Grieg- one can not help but smile at the serenity of mattia polibio shirt. The winds, particularly the clarinet, are like the birds who sing joyous with the first rays of sunlight. A must. 3rd movement of Mozart’s symphony No.35- the Haffner symphony finale. Playful yet of immense intensity, long enough for us to taste greatness but short enough for us not to wallow at our mediocrity ;). It’s vibrant, fast and short. Ideal for when one cannot listen to the 1h and 20 minutes of Beethoven’s 9th or Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde(not to mention Wagners’ 15 hour Ring Cycle) Rossini’s overtures: I think I’ve listened to all of them by now. Including Demetrio and Polibio which has only be staged once in the last ten years(he wrote it at 14 anyway). Quite ironic how Rossini disliked writing overtures and nearly always waited until the last day to compose it, yet upon doing so produced masterpieces. To name a few: The thieving magpie, Semiramide, The Barber of Seville and William Tell.

I might also listen to some Baroque music like Vivaldi’s Bassoon Concerti. I must say I’m quite fond of mattia polibio shirt. I’m tired of listening to The Four Seasons constantly so I’ve relegated them to a mere monthly listen. Handel is a bit too much in the morning for me, although one could always go for his Passacglia in G minor. It has a beautiful circle of fifths progression which entrances the spirit. Bach is something I listen to at night. Fugue and counterpoint is admittedly not the lightest form of music. His Well Tempered Clavier suites are more suited for morning activities and relax, though.
